Contrary to popular belief, drivers under 21 are not automatically guilty of DUI for any detectable alcohol in their system. A BAC below 0.05% does not meet the legal threshold for a DUI charge.

However, individuals under 21 are subject to stricter licensing rules. Utah drivers under 21 hold an alcohol-restricted driver (ARD), which prohibits them from having any measurable alcohol in their system. Though not a DUI, an ARD violation carries some similarly serious consequences.
