Tis' The Season for New Year’s DUI Checkpoints in Utah

Utah law enforcement agencies typically stage statewide DUI checkpoints around major holidays, especially New Year’s. Although Utah law enforcement is required to notify the public in advance about DUI saturation patrols, the information is not easy to find. Utah law enforcement agencies would like to remind drivers there are severals ways people can get home safely after a few drinks: either via a cab, a sober friend or public transportation.

Below are important tips to consider if you find yourself facing a Utah DUI roadblock:

• You are not required to proceed towards a DUI checkpoint if you can legally maneuver away from the Utah sobriety roadblock.  
• Medical marijuana prescriptions issued from other states and legal marijuana purhased from other states are not legally recognized by the State of Utah. As soon as you cross the Utah State boarder, you can be charged with a DUI if you drive while under the influence of Marijuana.
